Funeral for Historian Park to be Held in Paris Friday

A funeral ceremony for South Korean-born French historian Park Byeng-sen, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, local time, at a church within Université Paris Diderot.

The South Korean Embassy in Paris announced on Thursday that it made such arrangements after consulting with Park’s bereaved family members. The funeral will reflect the wishes of Park, who was a devout Catholic.

Park’s family members plan to have her body cremated after the funeral Mass and then transfer her remains to South Korea once a decision is made by the South Korean government on whether her remains will be buried in a national cemetery.

Park, who was the biggest contributor in the return of a collection of ancient Korean royal books from France, died at the age of 83 on Tuesday in Paris.
