Frequency of Earthquakes Increases in Japan

A University of Tokyo study shows that the frequency of earthquakes has increased more than ten-fold in Japan since a massive earthquake struck the nation in March.

The Earthquake Research Institute at the University of Tokyo conducted surveys on how many earthquakes that are one magnitude or stronger have occurred in areas within five kilometers from 170 major faults since March last year.

The institute added that in particular, the frequency of earthquakes jumped up to 70 times in the central region and the northeastern region of Tohoku, which was severely devastated by the March quake.
