Iran's semi-official Fars news agency says Iran has shot down an unmanned U.S. spy plane in its eastern region.

The report said an intruding RQ-170 American drone was downed in eastern Iran and secured by the Iranian military.

Iran's Arabic-language Al Alam state television network also quoted a military source as saying the U.S. spy drone had been downed with little damage and was seized by the Iranian armed forces.

Iran has been in serious discord with the West including the U.S. since the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) released a report last month on Iran's alleged nuclear development.
