Bill Seeks US Citizenship for Children of Korean War Vets

A bill has been submitted in the U.S. Congress that seeks to automatically grant U.S. citizenship to children born between South Korean women and U.S. servicemen who fought in the Korean War.

The bill was submitted by Representative Zoe Lofgren as well as Congressman John Conyers, who is a Korean War veteran, last Friday. Other lawmakers who took part in submitting the bill were Gerald Connolly, Michael Honda, Jim McDermott and Loretta Sanchez. Those lawmakers are considered to be well versed in issues concerning South Korea within the Democratic Party.

The bill, which has been handed over to the House Judiciary Committee, seeks to automatically grant citizenship to children born during the Korean War and the Vietnam War between U.S. servicemen and local women. Citizenship would be granted in the event those children enter the U.S.
