A joint government and civic team from South Korea is in the U.S. to inspect the safety of American beef following a confirmed case of mad cow disease in California last week.

The team visited the Agriculture Department’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service in Maryland on Tuesday where it reviewed how the U.S. government assesses and responds to mad cow disease cases.

The Agriculture Department said it would provide the utmost cooperation to the Korean inspectors, including the disclosure of the meat processing plant in California where the recently infected cow was slaughtered. It said it would also direct the team to a company that provided cow feed to the farm where the infected cow was discovered.

The name of that farm was not disclosed since the owner refused the inspection team's visit. The team plans to continue requesting a visit even if it means extending its stay in the U.S.
