WSJ: European Automakers Seeking to Revise FTA with S. Korea

The Wall Street Journal says European automakers are lobbying to revise a free trade agreement (FTA) with South Korea that has resulted in a sharp rise in imports of Korean-made vehicles.

The report said Wednesday that officials from several European auto companies met in Brussels last week and discussed revising the trade pact with South Korea and ways to counter the increase in imports of cars made in South Korea.

The daily said last week’s meeting was the first gathering by European automakers on reviewing the trade pact and discussing the possibility of revising the trade deal.

EU spokeswoman Helene Banner said the meeting “led to some positive developments on nontariff barriers in the automotive sector.”
