A joint government and civic team from South Korea visited the National Veterinary Services Laboratories in the state of Iowa on Wednesday as part of its U.S. beef inspection.
The team received materials from the U.S. lab that show the case of mad cow disease confirmed in California last week was an atypical case.
The inspectors are waiting for test results from Britain on samples of risk parts from the infected cow. They said once the results are in, they will share views with other experts on the risks of an atypical case of mad cow disease.
The team also explained it will continue seeking access to the farm where the infected cow was discovered, despite the U.S. government's reluctance to disclose the farm's location to protect the privacy of the owner.
Regarding some opinions in South Korea that the team's visit to the U.S. is meaningless, the inspectors said the U.S. government is providing active cooperation to resolve suspicions in South Korea over mad cow disease. The team added that it will issue a comprehensive report on its findings once it returns.
