Munch’s “The Scream” Auctioned for Record $119.9 Mln

Norwegian expressionist Edvard Munch’s work, “The Scream,” has been sold for 119-point-nine million U.S. dollars at Sotheby's in New York, setting a record for the most expensive artwork sold at auction.

The bidding among seven interested parties quickly narrowed and ended in just 15 minutes on Wednesday night, local time.

The painting from 1895 is one of four versions Munch made under the same title and considered the most colorful and impressive of the bunch.

Picasso's 1932 “Nude, Green Leaves and Bust” was the previous record holder for the most expensive artwork sold on open auction, after it went for 106-point-five million dollars at Christie's in 2010.
