UNSC Permanent Members Urge N. Korea Not to Conduct Nuke Tests

The UN Security Council’s five permanent members have urged North Korea to refrain from conducting nuclear tests.

The United States, China, Britain, France and Russia made the call on Thursday in a joint statement issued during a meeting on nuclear issues in Vienna.

The five countries urged the North to refrain from engaging in any action that could spark serious security concerns in the region, including nuclear tests.

All five nations also issued grave concerns over the North’s launch of a long-range rocket last month and expressed strong support toward resuming the six-way nuclear talks at an appropriate time.

The council members also urged Iran to actively cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency’s nuclear activities monitoring program.
