A joint government and civic team from South Korea visited two facilities in California that process dead cattle on Thursday as part of its inspection of U.S. beef following a mad cow disease scare.
One of the two facilities is where the cow confirmed to have the disease was transported after it was euthanized.
The inspection team has vowed to dispel the Korean people’s concerns over the disease by thoroughly carrying out such inspections. It has already confirmed the U.S.'s initial report that the case was atypical.
The inspectors are also seeking to visit the farm where the infected cow was discovered to check out the environment in which the cow was raised.
The U.S. government is reportedly making efforts to persuade the farm’s owner to allow the inspection team to visit the farm. The owner has refused the team’s request to make the visit, explaining his farm has already undergone investigation by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
