Sarkozy Said to Have Received 2007 Campaign Funds from Libya

The lawyer of former Libyan Prime Minister Al Baghdadi Ali al-Mahmoudi says former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi funded French President Nicolas Sarkozy's 2007 election campaign.

Bechir Sid told reporters in Tunisia on Friday that the Gaddafi regime provided Sarkozy's campaign with roughly 50 million euros.

French news Web site Mediapart revealed a document suggesting that Lybia financed Sarkozy last week.

Sarkozy denied the allegations, saying that he will take strong legal action against the news website for publishing the document.
