The heads of the U.S. Senate and House committees on intelligence say the Taliban has become stronger despite a troop surge of 30-thousand U.S. forces to Afghanistan in 2010.

Chairwoman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Dianne Feinstein, and Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Mike Rogers, made the remarks to CNN after returning from a recent trip to Afghanistan.

Feinstein said that the Taliban is maintaining its control by influencing governors behind the scenes in many regions of Afghanistan.

Rogers commented that armed forces based in Pakistan have killed 500 U.S. soldiers in terrorist attacks and raids of advanced bases in border areas. He stressed the need to designate the armed forces as terrorist organizations and launch an offensive against them.
