The Italian Football Federation is investigating suspicions that 22 soccer clubs and 61 people have been involved in match-fixing and a betting scandal.

The federation chose not to name the clubs or individuals involved but said they would all be informed on Wednesday, local time, that they are being investigated. It said 52 of those suspected are active players, two are nonactive, three are coaches and four are collaborators or club officials.

The federation also said that 33 matches are being investigated.

Match-fixing has long been a problem in Italy, and more than 30 people were arrested last year for their involvement in the illegal betting.
