US Offers Condolences Over Death of S. Korean Nuke Inspector

The U.S. has offered its condolences over the death of a South Korean inspector working for the International Atomic Energy Agency in Iran.

U.S. State Department spokesman Mark Toner confirmed with reporters Tuesday that a South Korean IAEA inspector had been killed in a car accident in Iran. He said the U.S. expressed its deepest condolences to the family and the people of South Korea.

Fielding a question about Assistant Secretary of State Kurt Campbell’s meeting with the families of Japanese nationals abducted by North Korea, Toner explained the U.S. continues to pressure North Korea to aid Japan in resolving the issue.

Campbell, U.S. Special Representative for North Korea Policy Glyn Davies and U.S. Special Envoy for North Korean Human Rights Issues Robert King all met with the relatives of the abductees on Monday.
