Euro Zone Finance Ministers Urge Greece to Keep Bailout Promises

Finance ministers of euro zone countries promise to continue helping Greece if Athens maintains its austerity program and adheres to the pledges it made in return for bailout funds from the International Monetary Fund and the EU.

Euro zone finance ministers held a special meeting in Brussels Monday to discuss Greece, which is having difficulty forming a coalition government. Rumors have also circulated that Greece may consider leaving the euro zone.

The finance ministers reaffirmed the principle that Greece must abide by the conditions attached to its rescue packages. They unanimously agreed that Greece’s departure from the euro zone is undesirable but made it clear that Greece must keep its promises if it wants to remain in the monetary union.
