S.Korea, Chile Agree to Expand Cooperation

South Korea and Chile have agreed to work towards an overall cooperating relationship after a bilateral summit of foreign ministers on Friday.

South Korean Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan and his Chilean counterpart Alfredo Moreno met in the capital city of Santiago on May 25 and discussed energy issues, commodities, infrastructure, research in the South Pole, responses against drastic climate change, the expansion and intensifying of trade and investment and student exchanges between the two countries.

The two ministers also agreed to hold the bilateral meeting on a more regular basis, as well as meetings between South Korea and the Latin American and Caribbean states.

Chile, known for its abundant natural resources, was the first country to strike a free trade agreement with South Korea.
