Hong Kong's Mingpao Daily says two Tibetan monks set themselves on fire in Lhasa in protest of China's rule over Tibet.

The newspaper cited an internet blog by travelers who said they were at the famous Jokhang Temple in Lhasa when the self-immolation took place there.

The newspaper reported that the fire was quickly put out and the area was cordoned off by Chinese security forces.

A series of self-immolations have been occurring in Tibet, but this was the first in the region’s capital.

China's Xinhua news agency says one of the young monks died outside the temple and the other remains in serious condition.
