The European Commission is calling on Greece to further strengthen its efforts to prevent tax evasion.

A Greek daily reports that the commission’s economic and monetary affairs spokesman Amadeu Altafaj said that the Greek government should be tougher on tax evasion and fraud schemes.

Previously, International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde raised the issue of rampant tax evasion attempts in Greece, facing a strong backlash from Greek people.
