Japan Considers Dispatching Aegis Destroyers to Yellow Sea

The Asahi Shimbun says Japan's Defense Ministry is considering a plan to deploy Aegis destroyers to waters west of the Korean Peninsula in an effort to detect North Korea's movements to launch missiles.

The Japanese daily reported that the ministry said in a report on North Korean ballistic missiles that it will consider deploying the destroyers to waters surrounding North Korea's missile launch site when the North announces a launch plan.

The report suggests that the waters being mentioned are in the Yellow Sea.

The move follows Japan’s failure to obtain intelligence about last month’s launch of a ballistic missile by North Korea, despite its dispatch of Aegis warships to the East Sea and the East China Sea.
