South Korea’s Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) has topped the Times Higher Education ranking of the 100 best universities with a history of 50 years or less.

The 26-year-old South Korean university scored 71-point-eight points to rank first on the "THE 100 Under 50" list of new universities.

POSTECH received a perfect score in the industry income category and 92-point-three points in citations.

Switzerland’s École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne took second place, followed by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Another young South Korean university, the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), placed fifth on the list.
