S.Korea 7th Largest Seller of Defense Supplies to US

The U.S. Department of Defense purchased an estimated one-point-one billion dollars worth of defense supplies and services from South Korean companies in fiscal year 2011.

According to a report on overseas purchases the department reported to Congress, spending in South Korea grew 12-point-six percent last year compared to 990 million dollars in 2010.

The U.S. government bought well over six-point-one billion dollars worth of military supplies from Afghanistan where the U.S. is currently waging a war on terror. The figure is 25-point-six percent of total U.S. defense purchases from abroad.

After Afghanistan, the Pentagon purchased the most defense supplies from Switzerland, followed by Germany, Canada, Kuwait, the UK and South Korea.
