153 Dead in Nigerian Plane Crash

Nigerian aviation authorities say all 153 passengers aboard a domestic flight that crashed into an apartment building in Lagos on Sunday are dead.

The officials say the Dana Air flight left Lagos for capital Abuja on Sunday and the pilots radioed in about engine problems shortly after takeoff and right before the crash.

Witnesses say the plane made loud noises and flew low for about five minutes before slamming into a two-story residential building and erupting into flames.

The Nigerian government says radar control systems are in place nationwide, but the Associated Press reports airport radars fail to operate at times due to power shortages in Nigeria.
