Queen Elizabeth Celebrates Diamond Jubilee

A celebratory river pageant was held in London on Sunday to mark the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth the Second's accession to the throne.

A barge with the queen and her husband and family aboard sailed eleven kilometers along the Thames River from Battersea Bridge to a site near Tower Bridge.

British naval vessels, ships from the British Commonwealth of Nations and roughly 900 civilian ships escorted the royal barge in the river procession and celebrated the queen's 60-year reign.

The British government held the Diamond Jubilee celebration of the queen as a national event to show its respect to the royal family. Elizabeth is the second queen in her nation's history to serve 60 years on the throne.
