Global Food Prices Fall to Lowest Level in 8 Months

The UN Food and Agricultural Organization announced that global food prices fell in May to the lowest level since September 2011.

The UN agency's index showing price trends of 55 food products dropped from 213 in April to 203-point-nine in May, marking a decrease of four-point-two percent.

The Rome-based organization explained that this was due to a smooth supply of food products. But it added that food importers won't benefit from the lower prices since they'll be making payments in U.S. dollars, a currency that has grown stronger in recent months.
