The delayed identification of victims of a helicopter crash in Peru is holding back preparations for their funeral services.
Peruvian authorities said that of the 14 crash victims, only six had been identified as of Tuesday.
One of the identified victims is a South Korean who worked with Samsung C&T. The identities of three Peruvians and two other foreigners have been confirmed as well.
The identities of the remaining eight victims, including seven South Koreans, have yet to be confirmed, which is holding up funeral services and other activities families need to attend to.
An official at the South Korean Embassy in Peru said that Peruvian medical examiners are seeking to confirm the victims' identities based on dental records that they secured from South Korea, but they are having trouble due to differences between the two countries' medical systems.
South Korean companies proposed they will mobilize South Korean medial experts and equipment for identification and DNA tests to be conducted in South Korea, while Peruvian medical examiners promised their best to complete identifying the bodies within 24 hours.
