Expert Panel on N.Korea Sanctions to Run Additional Year

An expert panel of a U.N. Security Council (UNSC) committee on North Korea sanctions will carry out its activities for another year.

The Security Council met on Tuesday and unanimously agreed to extend the panel’s activities until next June. The expert panel first began operations in June 2009. It is made up of experts from the five permanent member countries of the Security Council as well as South Korea and Japan.

The panel is charged with reviewing progress in the implementation of sanctions on North Korea, collecting information related to sanctions, and making recommendations to enhance implementing sanctions.

This is the third time the council has extended the panel.
