A Dutch court has ruled that Apple violated Samsung Electronics’ patent right, and that the U.S. firm should compensate Samsung for related damage.

According to foreign media, including Dutch press, the District Court of The Hague ruled on Wednesday that some of Apple’s iPhones and tablet computers had violated Samsung’s 3G mobile communication patent right in their process of logging on to the Internet.

With the ruling, Samsung can request Apple for damages.

It is the first time Samsung has won a victory after it launched lawsuits against Apple around the globe alleging infringements of its technical patents.

Attention is being drawn to how the ruling will affect other patent suits that are ongoing in some ten countries.
