South Korea and Russia’s weather agencies have agreed to boost cooperation in exchanging weather forecast technology to provide improved services during the time they will host the Winter Olympic Games.

The Korea Meteorological Administration and the Russian Federal Service For Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring reached the agreement during their seventh round of talks in Saint Petersburg on Thursday.

Under the agreement, the two countries will take part in international weather forecast programs for Russia’s successful hosting of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games and South Korea’s successful hosting of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games. The two countries will also exchange weather forecasters.

In particular, Korea’s weather agency will take part in the World Meteorological Organization’s “Forecast and Research in the Olympic Sochi Testbed” program which is aimed at assisting weather forecasts for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games.
