China Calls on US to Stop Surveillance Flights

China’s state-run English newspaper reports that China has urged the U.S. to stop surveillance flights near China.

China Daily says Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie and the Chinese People’s Liberation Army’s Deputy Chief of the General Staff Ma Xiaotian made the call in a meeting with Commander of US Pacific Command Samuel Locklear on Tuesday in Beijing.

In the meeting, the Chinese defense minister reportedly expressed concerns about the U.S.’ frequent surveillance flights near China.

But Liang said that military ties between China and the U.S. have great potential to develop, adding that China would like to boost military exchanges and strengthen security cooperation with the U.S.

Locklear responded by calling for more dialogue and less misunderstanding.
