US Still Weary of Trusting Pyongyang

The U.S. government doesn't appear any closer to begin providing North Korea with food aid.

State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told reporters Monday that the U.S. remains concerned about North Koreans' well-being and is committed to doing what it can to work with Pyongyang so it returns to compliance with its international obligations.

However, Nuland explained Washington was trying to deal with this issue until the U.S. became concerned about whether it could trust the word of the North Korean government.

The U.S. agreed with Pyongyang in late February to provide food aid but it suspended the plan after the North launched a long-range rocket in April.
