Civic Group Seeks UN Resolution on Wartime Sex Slaves

A Korean-American civic group is seeking the adoption of a UN resolution to help Korean women who were forced to serve as sex slaves for Japanese soldiers during World War Two.

The New York-based Korean American Civic Empowerment announced Wednesday that it will drive the initiative during an event on July 24th marking the fifth anniversary of the passage of the Comfort Women Resolution condemning Japan’s role in forcing Asian women into sexual slavery during World War Two.

The event will take place at the office of Congressman Michael Honda who was the chief sponsor of the House resolution five years ago. Dozens of lawmakers are expected to attend the event, including U.S. House of Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

The Korean American Civic Empowerment plans to urge the U.S. legislators to persuade the State Department to propose the UN resolution in the name of the U.S.
