Britain, Ecuador to Seek Diplomatic Solution of Assange Issue

Britain and Ecuador will seek diplomatic solutions to the dispute surrounding WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who has been holed up in the Ecuadorean Embassy in London since June 19th.

A spokesman for Britain’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office said that British Foreign Secretary William Hague agreed with Vice President of Ecuador Lenín Moreno to seek diplomatic solutions to Assange's asylum in a meeting at the Foreign Office in London on Wednesday. The meeting preceded the opening of the 2012 London Paralympic Games.

The British government has been at diplomatic odds with Ecuador since Britain’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office said in a letter to the Latin American country that it might not respect the extraterritoriality of the Ecuadorian Embassy for the arrest of the WikiLeaks founder.
