Minorities Account for 96% of Shooting Victims in New York

A report from the New York Police Department shows that the vast majority of shooting victims in New York City are minorites.

New York City Police say 96 percent of shooting victims in the first half of the year were black and Hispanic, and 97 percent of the shooters were also minorities.

The police department report also showed that 89 percent of the victims and 86 percent of the suspects in murder cases including shooting deaths were black or Hispanic.

The New York Daily News reported that the recent statistics are expected to further strengthen New York Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly’s stance that random on-street questioning targeting minorities should be continued, despite criticism the practice is a violation of human rights.
