LVMH Chairman to Sue Newspaper for Libel

The head of luxury goods behemoth Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy (LVMH) says he will sue France’s largest left-wing newspaper for running a front-page picture of him under the headline, “Get Lost, You Rich Idiot.”

The newspaper Liberation’s attack on LVMH group Chairman Bernard Arnault, France’s richest man, comes as he is said to be seeking Belgian citizenship in an attempt to avoid the French government’s new drive to slap the nation’s super-wealthy with a tax hike.

A lawyer for Arnault said there is no other option than to sue the newspaper for libel, given the vile and violent nature of the headline.

Arnault’s apparent intention to become a Belgian has ignited anger across France.
