The 33rd International Council of Women General Assembly is being held in Seoul for a week from next Monday.

This year’s event will be held under the theme “Progress for Women is Progress for All.” Roughly one-thousand female leaders and representatives from womens' organizations from some 90 countries, including the Korean National Council of Women, will take part.

Issues such as sex crimes against women and children and the commercialization of sex will be discussed during the event, and a Seoul declaration for the progress of women is expected to be adopted.

President Kim Jung-sook of the Korean National Council of Women says the Seoul declaration will succeed the Beijing declaration adopted in 1995 during the UN World Conference on Women. Kim added that she will work towards the adoption of the Seoul declaration as a UN resolution so it will have the effect on an international law.
