44% of US Adult Single or Unmarried in 2011

Data from the U.S. Census Bureau show that 44 percent of adults were single or unmarried in the U.S. last year.

Among the single and unmarried population, 62 percent had never tied the knot, 23 percent were divorced, and 14 percent were widowed.

The U.S. Census Bureau said that six-point-eight million couples had live-in relationships and of them, 590-thousand were gay couples.
