Anti-West Protests Prevail in Muslim World

Protests continued in the Muslim world on Friday against an anti-Islam film produced in the U.S. and cartoons insulting the prophet Mohammed published in a French weekly magazine.

The protests have grown significantly in Muslim nations in Asia. In Pakistan, protests are intensifying by the day and at least 17 people, including police officers, have been killed and another 160 have been injured.

In the city of Surabaya in eastern Indonesia, protesters boycotted U.S.-made goods near the French consulate.

Also in Malaysia, some three thousand protesters burnt the American flag outside the U.S. embassy and demanded the U.S. government apologize and punish the movie producer.

U.S. and French missions in Islamic countries have temporarily closed and are tightening security measures.
