Germany is holding its 179th “Oktoberfest” in Munich in Bavaria.

The world’s largest annual beer festival opened on Saturday and will run through October seventh for 16 days, attracting more than six million beer lovers and tourists from around the world.

The beer extravaganza was first held on October 12th, 1810, as a wedding banquet for Crown Prince Ludwig who later became King Ludwig the First.

This year’s Oktoberfest is expected to create some 12-thousand part-time jobs at restaurants and bars in Munich
