Egyptian Court Sentences 14 Militants to Death

Arabic news network Al Jazeera reports that an Egyptian court upheld a lower court’s decision Monday to sentence 14 hard-line Islamic militants to death.

Egypt’s Supreme State Security Court in the Suez Canal city of Ismailiya sentenced the militants to hang and four others to life imprisonment for their involvement in attacks on police stations and banks in the Sinai Peninsula last year. Seven people were killed in the attacks, including three police officers, a soldier and a civilian.

Local media report that the ruling is a strong warning the Egyptian government is sending to Islamic armed terrorist organizations based in the Sinai Peninsula.
