Report : US Trade Deficit with S. Korea Increased After FTA

A recently released U.S. congressional committee report says the U.S. has been running a trade deficit with South Korea for more than a decade.

The Joint Economic Committee’s report explained that most of the deficit “is due to the shortfall of manufacturing exports to South Korea relative to imports from South Korea.”

It continued that “recent data following the implementation of the U.S.-Korea free trade agreement show imports from South Korea have increased while exports to South Korea have decreased.”

But the report noted it is still too early to evaluate the long-run impact of the bilateral trade pact.
