Turkey Fires at Syria in Retaliation

The Turkish government says it fired artillery at Syrian targets on Wednesday after shelling from Syria killed five civilians in Turkey's southeastern border village of Akcakale.

The office of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in a statement on Wednesday that “Turkey, acting within the rules of engagement and international laws, will never leave unreciprocated such provocations by the Syrian regime against its national security.”

Meanwhile, NATO’s 28 member countries convened an emergency meeting in Brussels late Wednesday to discuss escalating tensions between Turkey and Syria.
