Territorial Dispute Cuts Toyota Sales in Half in China

Japan’s Yomiuri Shimbun reports Toyota Motor’s sales fell by more than 50 percent in China last month due to a tense territorial dispute between the two nations over a group of islands in the East China Sea.

Toyota sold about 30-thousand units in China during September, down from 75-thousand units sold in August.

Japanese media say the fall was due to massive anti-Japanese protests in China following Tokyo’s announcement to nationalize the Senkaku islands on September 11th.
