WHO: Depression Affects 350 Million People Globally

The World Health Organization says that more than 350 million people suffer from depression around the world, accounting for about five percent of the global population.

The organization added that about half of those suffering from depression don’t receive sufficient medical treatment, since they feel ashamed of their symptoms.

The WHO released the statistics to mark this year’s World Mental Health Day, which falls on October tenth.

The organization explained that about one million people commit suicide a year around the world and more than half of them were depressed.
