Bali Steps up Security Ahead of 10th Anniv. of Terrorist Bombings

Bali has raised its vigilance against terrorism to the highest level as it is set to hold a ceremony on Friday marking the tenth anniversary of a series of bombings on the Indonesian island.

Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said the Indonesian government is stepping up security in its airports and ports after securing information that terrorists are targeting Friday's commemoration for an attack. Yudhoyono stressed that Indonesia will not, by any means, tolerate any kind of terrorism.

The Bali bombings took the lives of 202 people, including two South Koreans. Islamic extremist group Gema'ah Islamiyah, which has been linked to the international terrorist group Al-Qaeda, is believed to be responsible for the attacks. Those who were arrested for the bombing were executed or sentenced to prison.
