41% of K-pop, Korean Drama Fans in US Learning Korean

A new survey finds that around 40 percent of K-pop and Korean drama fans in the United States are learning Korean.

The Korea Tourism Organization’s branch office in Los Angeles said Monday that it conducted a survey on one-thousand-569 Americans who are members of Soompi-dot-com, a Web site on the Korean wave or "hallyu." The poll found that 41 percent of respondents decided to study the Korean language after becoming fans of K-pop and Korean dramas.

Twenty-six percent also said the Korean wave prompted them to try Korean food, while 16 percent said they decided to buy Korean products after listening to K-pop and watching Korean dramas.

The survey also found that 43 percent of respondents buy more than two K-pop CDs or Korean drama DVDs in a month.
