The Chinese Embassy in South Korea has expressed deep regret to Seoul over the death of a Chinese sailor who was killed by the Korea Coast Guard.
China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency said Tuesday that the Chinese Embassy urged the South Korean government to thoroughly investigate the latest incident and prevent it from happening again.
In Seoul, the Foreign Ministry earlier informed the Chinese government of the details of Tuesday’s incident via the Chinese Embassy in Seoul, and expressed regret over the issue. The ministry also conveyed words of condolence to the sailor’s bereaved family members.
The Korea Coast Guard office in Mokpo, South Jeolla Province said Tuesday that a Chinese sailor was killed by a rubber bullet shot by the Korean Coast Guard in the process of seizing two Chinese fishing boats.
The boats were illegally fishing in Korean waters near Hong Island off the coast of Sinan County, South Jeolla Province on Tuesday.
