Chinese Airline Offers Cheap Tickets to Japan due to Territorial Row

A Chinese budget airline is reportedly selling tickets for a flight linking China’s Shanghai and Japan’s Saga Prefecture for one yen.

China’s state-run radio station, China Radio International, reported that Spring Airlines will sell 50 seats on each flight between Shanghai and Saga for one yen for two months.

An average of 82 percent of seats on flights linking Shanghai and Saga were filled before the territorial dispute between China and Japan over a group of islands in the East China Sea. But the percentage fell to 63 percent last month.

China Southern Airlines will stop flying between Beijing and Fuji on October 28th due to a dropping number of passengers on the route. China Eastern Airlines will also halt the operation of flights linking Shanghai and Fukushima late this month for the same reason.
