Japan has decided to take part in the United States’ financial sanctions against North Korea.

U.S. Treasury Undersecretary David Cohen, in charge of terrorism and financial intelligence, and Japanese authorities discuss ways to impose financial sanctions against the North and agreed that the two countries will cooperate for effective sanctions.

Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said Japan will revise imposing the same financial sanctions against the North such as the U.S., such as freezing accounts of the Foreign Trade Bank of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and halting its remittance and withdrawal services.

The Foreign Trade Bank of DPRK is in charge of international services of the North’s central bank and financing overseas funds to the communist state. The United States has imposed independent financial sanctions against the bank.
