UNHRC to Set up COI on N. Korea Human Rights Situation

The UN Human Rights Council has agreed to launch an investigation into North Korean human rights abuses.

The council’s 47 members agreed to a resolution by consensus in Geneva Thursday.

The resolution calls for the establishment of a commission of inquiry that will launch a comprehensive investigation for a year into the North’s human rights situation and crimes against humanity, including torture and forced labor.

The resolution was submitted by the European Union and Japan and backed by other nations including the U.S.
