Cypriot Banks to Remain Closed Until Thursday

Cyprus has extended the closure of its banks for two more days until Thursday to prevent a bank run on deposits.

Cyprus’ central bank announced that all banks will remain closed through Thursday for the smooth functioning of the entire banking system.

Cypriot banks have already been closed for more than a week since March 16th. People are allowed to withdraw up to 100 euros a day at ATMs, but most of them are quickly running out of cash.

The European Central Bank decided on Monday to continue to provide emergency funds to Cypriot banks.
